Kayak Tours Anna Maria Island
Enjoy a scenic kayak tour of Anna Maria Island!
The tour begins with an orientation on ocean kayaks, proper paddling techniques and a discussion of the mangrove system and its role in Florida ecology. As we paddle along a fringe of red mangroves and into Anna Maria Sound, we often find dolphins feeding in the shallow waters. The tour then passes under the Key Royale Bridge and into Bimini Bay, in which canals were dredged in the early 1900’s. We make our way into a no wake zone, which is a popular hangout for manatees. Hopefully we will be lucky enough to see one of these magnificent creatures!
We continue on to visit three intriguing native habitats.
The first stop is a bird rookery, where you will have a chance to see a variety of species, including the Roseate Spoonbills, Blue Herons and White Egrets. Next we visit a Mangrove island, where we will wade in the sea grass to view fish eggs, hermit crabs, and mullet jumping in the sea grass. Our final stop is an oyster shoal.
Cool Off with a Swim
The trip then heads out into Tampa Bay, where we stop at a sandbar and have an opportunity to cool off with a swim.
Views of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and Tropicana Field can be enjoyed from a distance. After passing under the City Pier and partaking in a game of Island Limbo, the tour will end at Bay Front Park, where you sit back in the shade and enjoy the view.
Please advise us of anything you would like to see on the tour.
